VanDev: Summer Evening Fair

Summer is finally here and we're celebrating with an evening of food, fun, and relaxation. Bring your family and friends, your tech toys and games, and some food and drink to share. It's pot luck and there are shops nearby for just-in-time solutions. We've reserved a large picnic area and playing field in Burnaby's beautiful Confederation Park for:

[4:30-6:00] Appy Hour - Pot luck appetizers
[4:30-5:30] Informal soccer and frisbee games
[5:00-5:30] User Interface Enhancements (face painting)
[5:30-5:50] Kokology, the popular Japanese pop-psych quiz game
[5:30-5:45] Coupled objects race (3 legged)
[5:45-6:00] Token ring race (relay)

[6:00-7:30] Pot luck barbecue and picnic
[7:30-8:50] Robotics demonstrations by:
-> Starfox Robotics Team
-> The Vancouver Robotics Club
-> UBC Thunderbird Robotics Team
[8:50-9:00] 50-50 grand prize draw
[9:00-9:30] Clean-up

Our picnic area is rated for 200 people and we've also got a large playing field to spread out on as well as the playground and other park amenities that are open to the public so we've got plenty of room. For photos see softwaredev.meetup.com/17/photos/365221/

Note that the fair is strictly a family oriented non-alcoholic event so reserve the drinks for other parties later on. Thanks.

Please check in at the Gazebo in picnic area #1 to:
-> Fill out your name tags (required)
-> Pick up your program
-> Reserve a picnic table
-> Register for races
-> Bid at the silent auction
-> Get your 50-50 tickets ($2 ea, 3/$5, 8/$10, 20/$20)

Please bring:
-> Anything that you want to barbecue
-> Food or beverages to share
-> Games, gadgets, and toys

And let us know if you can bring:
-> Folding tables and chairs
-> Barbecues, coolers, and ice

And if you can volunteer for:
-> Judging, safety, security, or first-aid
-> Set-up and clean-up

We'll supply:
-> Cups, plates, cutlery, napkins
-> Ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, barbecue sauce, salt n pepper

Directions and Transit Options:
Confederation Park is located North-East of Hastings Street and Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby. The picnic areas and our playing field are located in the South-East corner just West of Beta Avenue as shown on the park map.

There is limited public parking off of Beta Avenue so please use Beta for drop-off and pick-up only. There are public parking lots near the McGill library, the Eileen Daily Pool, and on Penzance Drive. Library parking is the closest.

The #135 bus runs along Hastings between Burrard Station and SFU about every 5 minutes.

The #160 bus runs along Hastings Street between Vancouver and Port Coquitlam about every 30 minutes.

The #123 and #130 buses run along Willingdon between the park and the Brentwood Skytrain station on the Millennium Line.
